THE EARTH MY HOME: A UNIQUE HIMALAYAN NATURAL ART EXHIBITION

The Himalayan Natural Art Exhibition, titled “The Earth My Home”, a remarkable showcase of creativity and sustainability is on show at New Delhi from 10 January 2025 till 16 January 2025.

VENUE: GALLERY ART POSITIVE F-213/B/ OLD MB ROAD/ LADO SARAI/  NEW DELHI – 110030/

“This exhibition is the result of our first residential Natural Art Course, held at the Mountain-Wind Campus in Bhuira village, Himachal Pradesh, from June 4th to 10th, 2024. The course brought together seven talented women artists from Delhi, Australia and Himachal Pradesh, under the guidance of Bettina (Bina) Van Haeften, a renowned Wild Art artist from Australia and a member of the MW faculty,” says the organizers of the Exhibition.

During the course, Bina introduced the participants to the concepts of Wild Art and eco-dyeing using Shibori techniques. The course was designed with two main art skill components: eco-dyeing on natural calico fabric and Wild Art using natural pigments and brushes. The artists learned to create their own natural paints and brushes from materials found in the surrounding forest area.

This exhibition stands out not only for its unique content but also for its relevance in today’s global climate context. It is believed to be the first of its kind in the country, where all the non-traditional artists have used only natural, self-made brushes and 100% natural paints in their artwork. The pieces showcased are entirely made with natural pigments and utensils or brushes crafted from stones, leaves and bark sourced from the Himalayan forest environment around the MW Campus. The Shibori work is created using self-made natural dyes. The only market materials used in producing all the art pieces are paper, canvas and calico/natural cotton cloth.

CELEBRATING ART AND NATURE

This exhibition is a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, showcasing the works of talented artists like Alka Mathur, Bina Van Haeften, Georgina Maddox and Pooja Hada. Their creations reflect a deep connection with nature and cultural roots. The Himalayan Rilung Foundation, through its Mountainwind Ecoversity, continues to promote creativity and ecological consciousness. A portion of the sale proceeds will support the Foundation’s efforts in experiential learning and environmental protection.

Curated by Georgina Maddox, this show is a testament to the power of art in fostering a compassionate global community.

THIS EXHIBITION IS A TESTAMENT TO THE BEAUTY AND POTENTIAL OF NATURAL ART, HIGHLIGHTING THE IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABILITY AND CREATIVITY IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
