Sangeeta Sanje: A Melodic Tribute to Dr. Gangubai Hangal

On April 5th and 6th, 2025, Nagarkar Library’s Artists’ Forum will host “Sangeeta Sanje,” a heartfelt celebration of Hindustani Classical Vocal music. Honoring the 112th birth anniversary of legendary musician Padma Vibhushan Late Dr. Gangubai Hangal, this event invites music lovers to embrace the timeless legacy of one of India’s iconic vocalists. Set in the 1st Floor Auditorium at Nagarkar Library in Hubballi, attendees will experience an immersive journey into the soulful rhythms of classical music—a tribute that resonates with the essence of art and history.

A Legacy of Resonance and Recognition

Legendary musician Gangubai Hangal’s (05 March 1913 – 21 July 2009) journey through music was not merely a pursuit but a lifelong commitment to mastering the khayal genre of Hindustani classical music. Her distinct, powerful voice and dedication earned her a revered position in the Kirana gharana. With milestones like the Padma Vibhushan, Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy Award,  and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award & Fellowship, her artistry has transcended generations. From her humble beginnings in Dharwad to her extraordinary achievements, Gangubai Hangal remains a beacon of classical excellence and an enduring symbol of passion for the arts.

The evening of April 5th, 2025, promises to be a captivating cultural experience, beginning with Hindustani Classical Vocal by the talented Shri Sudhanshu Soman of Midbhav, Maharashtra, the event gracefully transitions into a soulful sitar recital by the acclaimed Shri Partha Pratim Roy from Kolkata who mesmerises the audience  with his soul-stirring magic of ragas.

Accompanied by the skillful Sri Uday Kulkarni from Goa on tabla and Shri Chidambar Joshi on samvadini, these performances blend tradition and artistry, transporting the audience to a realm of pure melody. 

Shri Ninad Daithankar, a master of the santur, will enchant the audience with his melodious strings, while Pandit Ashok Nadgir will elevate the atmosphere with his soul-stirring vocals. Dr. Shrihari Diggavi, with his skillful command over the tabla, will add rhythm and energy to the performances. 

Together, these accomplished artists will create a musical experience that resonates with tradition and brilliance, leaving the audience captivated.
