Lyrical Landscapes: Bikash Poddar’s Mesmerizing Watercolours at Gallerie Ganesha

From April 4 to 7, 2025, Gallerie Ganesha in New Delhi will come alive with the enchanting watercolours of renowned Bengal artist Bikash Poddar. 

Known for his unique ability to weave human figures seamlessly into breathtaking natural landscapes, artist Bikash Poddar brings his artistic vision to this exhibition titled “Lyrical Landscapes.”

Born in 1954 in Kaliyaganj, North Bengal, he honed his craft at the College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, earning a gold medal in Applied Art. After a stellar advertising career, Poddar embraced his true calling in the 1990s, devoting himself entirely to painting. Over the years, his works have captivated audiences across India and internationally, making this showcase at E-557, Greater Kailash II, New Delhi.

Bikash Poddar’s artistic style is a mesmerizing blend of tradition and elegance. He skillfully combines the intricate details of Indian miniature art with the graceful fluidity of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy techniques. His watercolour landscapes transport viewers to tranquil rural settings—weathered temples, rustic homes, and boats resting peacefully by the waterside.

Each scene radiates a soft, translucent glow, enriched by architectural precision. This harmony of delicate artistry and serene imagery creates a unique connection between the natural world and human presence, offering a quiet yet profound visual experience.

“Through the delicate wash technique, Bikash Poddar brings his landscapes to life, painting on wet paper to create seamless blends of color and light. This approach, though demanding with its fleeting window of opportunity before the paper dries, lends his art an ethereal quality,” says the organizers of the show.

 Each stroke reflects his mastery and intuition, capturing fleeting moments of beauty with grace and precision. 

It is this blend of skill and spontaneity that makes his creations truly timeless.
