INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT BY RENOWNED VOCALIST DR. DEBVERNA BASU AT BANGKOK
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Bangkok presented Indian Classical Music Concert by renowned vocalist Dr. Debverna Basu accompanied by Danish Nayer on the Tabla and Smt. Barnali Basu on the Harmonium on 14 December 2023.
Renowned musician Dr. Debverna Basu is an Indian Classical Vocalist, a versatile artist who encourages our traditional culture with simplicity and elegance.
“I have learnt the Jaipur gharana style of singing mostly. And also the Gwalior way. I love them both and I seek to gradually fuse both these gayakis into the development of my own singing,” says renowned vocalist Dr. Debverna Basu.
Debverna is the disciple of Vidushi Arati Ankalikar. She has also trained under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar for a few years. Her primary learning had been under her mother Smt. Barnali Basu who is also a classical vocalist.
“I like teaching too because I personally can learn through this process. Being able to teach dedicated students always aid in self- growth. I’ve had the privilege to work in music departments like in MIT ADT University with the likes of music aficionados like Pandit Adinath Mangeshkar ji has given me a good overall experience,” she added.
Renowned musician Dr. Debverna Basu has received numerous prestigious scholarships and fellowships, the most special to her is the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Scholarship from Maharashtra and others from CCRT and Ministry of Culture India. In November 2023, she has been awarded with a Doctorate in Indian Classical Music. Dr. Debverna Basu is also a trained Western Classical guitarist having studied this form of playing through Trinity Guildhall, London branch in India. She is a composer too and has several releases to her credit.
