RENOWNED MANIPURI DANCER SUDIP KUMAR GHOSH

Renowned artist Sudip Kumar Ghosh’s dedication and talent in Manipuri dance led him to join the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy. This opportunity was facilitated by the renowned dance guru K. Jatin Singh from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. At the academy, Sudip received extensive training under the Guru Shishya tradition from Guru Th. Chourajeet Singh, the son of Padma Shri Guru Th. Babu Singh and Smt. N. Amusana Devi. He is a Graded Artist at Doordarshan Kendra, Kolkata.

Teaching and Mentorship

Sudip has shared his knowledge and passion for Manipuri dance through various teaching roles. He has taught at the Army Public School in Kolkata (2006-2008), the Nrityangana Dance Forum in East Delhi (2010-2013), served as Head of the Classical Dance Department at Gurukul – A Perfect Activity Center (2013-2015), and at Udaan International School in Bihar (2015-2016). His dedication to teaching has inspired many students to pursue and excel in the art of Manipuri dance.

Celebrated Performances

Sudip Kumar Ghosh has showcased his talent at many prestigious festivals and events. Some of his notable performances include the Mudra Dance Festival 2024, NCPA Mumbai 2024, and the Holi Festival at Shri Shri Anumahaprabhu Mandir, Nabadwip in 2024. He also performed at the Vivekananda Music Festival at Golpark Ramakrishna Mission, Kolkata 2024, and the Surat Litfest 2024. In 2023, he graced the Kalaa Utsavam in Guwahati, Assam, the Meitei Jagoi 50 Years Celebration in Santiniketan, and the SriManta SankarDev 575th Birth Anniversary Festival in Sualkuchi, Kamrup, Assam. His performances have also been featured at the IIC Monsoon Festival 2023, Naad Nrityanjali in Bokaro 2023, and the 2nd Sanskriti National Dance Festival in Ranchi 2023. Sudip’s artistry has been celebrated at the Kala Ghoda Art Festival in Mumbai in both 2019 and 2023, and at the Global Independent Film Festival of India 2023. His dedication to dance continues to inspire audiences across various cultural platforms.

Contributions to Choreography and Festivals

Sudip Kumar Ghosh has made significant contributions to choreography and organizing dance festivals. His notable choreographic works include “Mahishashurmardini” for Frontier TV, “MeriMaa,” and “Monerporosehiya” (Manipuri and Mohiniyattam). He has successfully conducted annual dance festivals such as the Banshi National Dance Festival, Padmashri Guru Th. Babu Singh National Dance Festival, Kabiguru Dance Festival, Kamal National Children Dance Festival, Katchaba (Samarpan) International Manipuri Dance Festival in Imphal, and Shradhanjali – a tribute to Guru Pt. Birju Maharaj.

Achievements and Awards

Sudip’s excellence in Manipuri dance has been recognized with numerous awards. He secured first place in Manipuri dance competitions in 2008 and 2009 and achieved third place in the National Youth Festivals held by the governments of Odisha (2010), Rajasthan (2011), and Karnataka (2012). His contributions to dance have been honored with prestigious awards such as the Shikshak Shree Teachers Awards (2012), NrutyaKumudini (2012), National Nritya Mani (2013), Rangasree Puraskar (2015), Kala Shirumoni (2015), Shivanjali (2017), International Academy Award in Malaysia (2017), NrityaBhushan (2018), and the Indira Kritti Samman (2020).
