VENKATESAN K conducts WHEEL POTTERY WORKSHOP at TASMAI / A CENTRE FOR ARTS & CULTURE/ PONDICHERRY

Venkatesan. K, the recipient of the prestigious National Merit Award in Terracotta conducts another workshop on the traditional pottery by using a wheel, the invention that brought a revolution in making clay vessels centuries back.
The origin of the traditional pottery wheel remains a debate, but most agree that it first appeared in the Sumerian civilization 4000 BC.
Here, Venkatesan. K tries to teach this magical technique and make beautiful bowls, pots , jugs and more in the workshop at TASMAI, Pondicherry on 1 July 2022.
He will teach the students the basics of making vessels on the wheel using the most eco-friendly material, clay.
Venkatesan belongs to the fifth generation of the traditional Terracotta artist’s family from Vilianur, Pondicherry.
He is affiliated with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and conducts Master Craftsmen Training Programs in Terracotta for the last thirty years and is an expert in traditional as well as contemporary Terracotta Art.
