UNVEILING THE PAST: LECTURE ON THIRUKAMESWARAR TEMPLE INSCRIPTIONS
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) Regional Centre in Puducherry recently organized a Lecture cum Discussion on “Rare Informations in Puducherry Inscriptions of the historic Thirukameswarar Temple of Villianur and its Inscriptions: Unveiling the Past (12th Century Temple built by Chola)” at the temple premises on 20 November 2024.
The event was a resounding success, focusing on the 12th-century inscriptions and sculptures of the historic Villianur temples, providing an in-depth exploration of their cultural, historical and artistic significance.
Kalaimamani Pulavar Villianur Venketesan, an eminent inscription expert, presided as the Resource Person of the program. His enlightening lecture unraveled the rich heritage embedded in these ancient inscriptions and sculptures. His insights into the linguistic, artistic, and historical contexts of the inscriptions captivated the audience, making the session highly engaging and informative.
The event drew a diverse audience, including scholars, students, musicians, writers, gallerists and artists. Their active engagement enriched the session, making it a dynamic and collaborative exchange of ideas. This program was one of the many initiatives by the Puducherry Regional Centre aimed at promoting and preserving cultural heritage. Participants appreciated the event, highlighting how it deepened their understanding of the region’s historical treasures and inspired further exploration.
