ROCK PAINTING CAMP IN PUDUCHERRY: SHOWCASING STUDENT TALENT AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
A two-day Rock Painting Camp in Puducherry, organized by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, highlighted the artistic skills of 28 enthusiastic students. Held on November 6th and 7th, the camp provided a platform for students to creatively interpret traditional Indian rock painting techniques and express their individuality through art.
Special guests, including Mr. R. Bhaskar alias Datchanamourtty, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Arianguppam constituency; Mr. A. Nedunchezhiyan, IAS, Secretary of Arts and Culture and Vice-chairman of Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam; Dr. Gopal Jayaraman, Regional Director, IGNCA-RCP graced the event. They expressed their vision of seeing Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam grow into a world-renowned institution, promoting Puducherry’s art and culture globally.
IGNCA Puducherry Regional Director Dr. Gopal Jayaraman encouraged the young artists to deepen their understanding of their work, fostering a reflective approach to art. Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam Principal Dr. Annapurna, Fine Arts Department Head Dr. P.V. Prabhakaran, and the faculty applauded the students, inspiring them to continue honing their creative talents.
Over the two days, students engaged in hands-on training and crafted beautiful paintings that embodied the distinctive qualities of Indian rock art. These artworks were displayed publicly for attendees to appreciate.
This camp emphasized the importance of preserving traditional art forms and marked a meaningful collaboration between IGNCA and Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam to promote and nurture local artistry and heritage in Puducherry.
