RENOWNED ARTIST CHITRA ARVIND: A JOURNEY OF DANCE AND INNOVATION
Chitra Arvind, the Founder and Artistic Director of Rhythmotion since 2008, is an empaneled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and a graded artist of Doordarshan. Initiated into dance at the age of seven, Chitra has mastered Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Contemporary dance. Practicing and imparting dance education and body conditioning sessions over three decades, she represents a vibrant new generation of dance makers, blending Indian dance culture with innovative choreography. Her passion for dance is evident in her works at Rhythmotion.
Chitra Arvind’s journey in dance has taken her across the globe. Invited to work in London, she collaborated with leading contemporary dance choreographers like Shobana Jeyasingh, Wayne Mc Gregor and Laurie Booth. During her time there, she honed her skills in Indian martial arts such as Kalaripayattu and Chhau, and modern dance techniques including Graham, Cunningham, and Release. She also studied choreography at the Place Theatre, London.
As a Cultural Ambassador to South Korea, Chitra’s Rhythmotion Dance Company performed at the prestigious Busan International Dance Festival 2018. She has conducted workshops at the University of California, Irvine and in Croatia, and has worked with leading contemporary dance choreographers in London. Trained under renowned gurus, Chitra has choreographed numerous productions and toured extensively, earning accolades for her performances.
Chitra Arvind has choreographed numerous dance productions in Indian classical and contemporary styles, touring extensively in the UK, USA, Europe, South Korea, South East Asia and South Africa, earning accolades for her performances.
Trained in Bharatanatyam under Guru Dr. Lalitha Srinivasan, she also learned from Guru B. Bhanumati and Guru Smt. Padmini Ravi. She holds a BA in Choreography from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore, and trained in Kathak under Guru Dr. Maya Rao, Guru Smt. Chitra Venugopal and others.

Recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the FKCCI Social Woman Entrepreneur Award 2023, Best Dance Choreographer Award at Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav 2022 and Best Performer Award in Bharatanatyam at Parthasarathy Swami Sabha Chennai 2019. Honored with the IIDF Contemporary Dance Award 2016, National Nrithya Shiromani Award in Kathak at Cuttack Mahotsav 2013, Young Achiever Award for Dance & Choreography by Lions Club International 2011 and Best Dancer Award by Nupura 2001. These accolades highlight a remarkable journey of dedication and excellence in the world of dance and choreography.
Chitra Arvind’s dedication extends to teaching, imparting dance education to hearing and speech-impaired students in Bangalore. Through the Rhythmotion Trust, she curates Chalana-dance for a Cause, a festival supporting the Deaf Aid Society. Her passion for dance and innovative approach continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
