CURATORIAL ADVISORY: JITENDRA PADAM JAIN, FOUNDER & MD, GALLERY SREE ARTS

Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Chopra, Former Mayor of Southwark, and esteemed Guests of Honour, Ravi Bhanot MBE and Sushma Bhanot MBE, renowned philanthropists and wellness experts, will grace this memorable event celebrating art.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, showcasing a collection of 50 mixed-media paper works and 20 acrylic and oil paintings on canvas. Visitors can expect to see an extension of Sangeeta Singh’s celebrated “Tea Side Stories” series, which delves into themes of identity, migration and self-discovery, inspired by her nomadic lifestyle.

Sangeeta Singh’s creations are like landscapes from her travel diaries, where she blends personal experiences, memories and artistic expression into a visual narrative. Her works are infused with a deep sense of personal connection and authenticity, reflecting her nomadic life and the impact of migration on her soul. Through these thought-provoking pieces, she encourages viewers to reflect on their own lives and connect with her creative journey.

The “Tea Side Stories” series evolved after her participation in an art residency in Turkey in 2016. During their stay, the artists presented their creative journeys while bonding over cups of Turkish tea. This experience inspired Sangeeta to create a series brimming with the shared emotions of warmth, bonding, love and togetherness. The story behind the teacups is a testament to the connections we form and the shared moments that bring us closer.

“Sangeeta’s extensive travels have influenced her outlook and provide her inspiration that is conveyed to the viewer as a unique personal experience. Her artworks are energetic, bold and vivid, and at the same time, full of graceful movement. Line and color prevail over form and the allegorical is interwoven with the abstract. She reconstructs things around her and isolates them from the larger context. This unique style results in Sangeeta’s semi-figurative, stylized images that emphasize structure and detail. Her paintings are characterized by rich, grainy, layered images and emotional dynamism. Moving away from straightness, she depicts distortions, and shows us that truth is always subjective,” says renowned curator Jitendra Padam Jain, Founder and MD, Gallery Sree Arts, New Delhi.

Born in 1968, Sangeeta Singh initially studied science before pursuing her passion for painting. She trained at the Triveni Kala Sangam under the guidance of eminent artist  Rameshwar Broota. Based in Gurgaon, India, she continues to experiment and innovate in her art.

Sangeeta Singh has received several awards, including Senior and Junior Fellowships from the Ministry of Culture, the Raja Ravi Varma Chitrakaar Award, and the Kala Gaurav Samman. With 13 solo shows and over 70 group exhibitions worldwide, she has exhibited extensively at both national and international levels. She has attended art camps in various countries including in Austria, Italy, Turkey, Jaipur, Rishikesh, Udaipur and New Delhi,  also spoken at various international conferences. Artist Sangeeta Singh teaches art to young learners and aspiring artists.

Through “Reflective Memoirs”, I invite viewers to embark on an introspective journey, connecting with their own stories and emotions as we all bond over a cup of tea.. My art is a reflection of my experiences, and I hope it inspires others to reflect on their own Paths – Sangeeta Singh

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the poignant and evocative works of Sangeeta Singh at The Nehru Centre, London.
