GUNDICHA DANCE FESTIVAL AT KOLKATA
The 7th Gundicha Dance Festival, a cultural initiative by ISKCON Kolkata, continued its tradition of celebrating Indian classical dance by showcasing astounding talents over seven days.
This year, the second day of the festival mesmerised the audience spellbound with a stunning performance of ‘Gaudiya Nritya’, the classical dance form of West Bengal. The performance was presented by Dr. Soumya Bhowmick, disciple of renowned artist Prof. Mahua Mukherjee, along with his team, Gaudiya Charukala Bharati’s talented students.
It was dedicated to the divine pleasure of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev, Maharani Subhadra and Sudarshan Dev, in celebration of the auspicious Ratha Yatra festival. Talented artists Shreyasi Mondol, Sayani Pramanik, Koushika Shaw, Sukla Bar, Bidiptwa Chatterjee, Rajanya Chowdhury, Ranu Das, Srijita Mondol, Priti Ranu Das, Megha Bahadur, Swkriti Majhi, Koushik Shaw, Sridip Karmakar, Surojit Das, Debojyoti Mallik, and Rakesh Majhi, the talented students of Gaudiya Charukala Bharati enthralled the audience with their performances of ‘Gauranga Astakam’, which depicted the eight qualities of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and ‘Dashavatar’, illustrating the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The students captivated the audience with their elaborate costumes, expressive acting and expert stage presentations.
The entire performance was beautifully anchored by Dr. Gita Biswas, whose melodious voice added to the charm of the event. The choreography, done by renowned artist Prof. Mahua Mukherjee, is a testament to her skill and dedication. The program was directed by Dr. Soumya Bhowmick. The music is composed and sung by Pandit Amitabha Mukherjee.
