CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OF GLORY DANCE FESTIVAL WITH A LITERARY TRIBUTE

Marking its 15th year, the Glory Dance Festival by Gaudiya Nrityakala Bharati was a grand celebration, highlighted by the release of the book “Gaudiya Nrityer Natyadharay: Barak Upatyakar Ojhanritya” by Satyajit Bose Joy. The event, held in collaboration with ONGC Srikona, took place at Silchar on Monday, 23 December 2024. 

The book was unveiled by esteemed guests including Dr. Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former Vice-Chancellor of Assam University and Dr. Amalendu Bhattacharjee, former head of the Department of Bengali at Gurucharan College. Other notable attendees were Atin Das, veteran journalist and writer; Bipul Gohain, assets manager at ONGC Srikona; Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, head of the Department of Bengali, Assam University; Dr. Biswatosh Chowdhury, former head, Department of Bengali, Assam University; Manjul Deb, development chairman and  Sumitra Dutta, eminent educationist. 

The celebration was graced by prominent figures such as Prof. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, an exponent of Gaudiya Nritya;  Pandit  Amitava Mukherjee; Sandeep Kumar Sharma, principal, KV ONGC, Srikona;  Dipak Sengupta, columnist;  Swarnali Choudhury, social worker (president of Gaudiya Nrityakala Bharati); Biswajit Roy Choudhury, renowned singer; Bhaskar Das, social worker; Shekhar Debroy, playwright and actor; Saumitra Roy Poddar, social worker; Ajoy Roy, advocate; Santosh Chanda, cultural worker;  Chameli Bose, mother of Satyajit Bose Joy,  among others. 

This event not only honored the rich tradition of Gaudiya Nritya but also celebrated the literary contributions that preserve and promote this cultural heritage.

A TRIBUTE TO GAUDIYA NRITYA

Speaking at the launch, author Satyajit Bose Joy, director of Gaudiya Nrityakala Bharati, expressed his gratitude to the legendary classical dancer Mukundadas Bhattacharjee for his inspiration. He also acknowledged the encouragement from Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Dr. Amalendu Bhattacharjee and the assistance from Bipul Gohain. The book is based on his thesis on Gaudiya Nritya. The event began with a Guru Vandana and honored several distinguished guests, including Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Pandit Amitava Mukherjee, and Gaudiya Nritya artists Jayanta Biswas, Dr. Soumya Bhowmick and Satyajit Bose Joy. 

The evening was enriched with dance and song performances, celebrating the rich tradition of Gaudiya dance, which draws from a diverse tapestry of literature, history and folk traditions.
