GANESA NATYALAYA’S GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION: SWARNA SAROJA

Ganesa Natyalaya, as part of its golden jubilee celebration and in memory of Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, presents ‘Swarna Saroja’– a captivating evening of dance on Sunday, 13 October 2024 at 6 pm at the Ganesa Natyalaya auditorium, Qutab Institutional Area, New Delhi.

The event features COAST TO COAST, a Bharatanatyam presentation by Debasmita Thakur and Mridula Nambiar, and ARPAN, a Kathak presentation by Vidushi Geetanjali Lal.  COAST TO COAST — performance by Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan’s senior disciples, adapts Bharatanatyam through poetry from Kerala and West Bengal. The dancers explore poetry depicting strong, path-breaking women from these coastal states, pushing the boundaries of their dance forms to establish their own identities. The 60-minute recital concludes with a duet featuring a Dwijavanti Tillana.

ARPAN is a 40-minute Kathak recital by the esteemed Vidushi Geetanjali Lal from the Jaipur gharana. Dedicated to her dear friend, Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, this performance reflects their close bond. The program also features a video of a past performance where both gurus shared the stage, with Guru Saroja performing Bharatanatyam to a Thumri and Guru Geetanjali performing Kathak to a Telugu poem.

Ganesa Natyalaya, founded by Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan in 1974 with a small group of students, has grown immensely over the past 50 years. Today, it has both Indian and international students. The institution is renowned for its detailed training in Bharatanatyam, creating stunning dance productions not only in Delhi but worldwide. Over 2000 students have trained here, and more than 30 disciples have established their own Bharatanatyam schools, with half of them located overseas.
