EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF SRIJANOTSAV 2024: A CELEBRATION OF INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE
Darpani, Kolkata in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India presents SRIJANOTSAV 2024, a captivating festival celebrating the richness of Indian classical dance.
This enchanting event will take place at Gyan Manch, 11 Pretoria Street, Kolkata on Friday, 15 November 2024 in the evening @ 6 PM.
Srijanotsav 2024 will feature mesmerizing performances by esteemed dancers, including Odissi by Shayomita, Sanjukta and Rajneeta; Bharatanatyam by Shubhojit, Karunaketan and Sayan; and Kathak by Sourav, Subrata and Shouvik. Festival Director Arnab Bandyopadhyay has curated this event to showcase the beauty and diversity of Indian classical dance.
Showcasing India’s diverse cultural heritage through Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak, featuring the trio presentations in each classical form and engage youth in appreciating Indian dance.
“SRIJANOTSAV, a festival of dance was conceptualized and presented by DARPANI in 2022 to take forward this journey of rhythm to spread joy, hope and happiness. The sole idea of this festival was to bind emotions and passions of not only artists, but also of ordinary people transcending their field of activities,” says eminent artist Arnab Bandyopadhyay, Festival Director and founder of Darpani.
“Everything in this universe has a rhythm. It is the universal mother tongue, the language of the soul.The best way to express rhythm is through dance. Darpani presents Srijanotsav to spread joy, hope and happiness. The festival aims to unite artists and ordinary people across regions, languages and cultures, showcasing India’s diverse cultural heritage through Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak. It will feature trio presentations in each classical form, engage youth in appreciating Indian dance and foster cooperation, collaboration and harmony,” says renowned artist Arnab Bandyopadhyay.
“DARPANI’s festival will prepare the Nritya Bhumi (The platform) for artists to showcase their musings on rhythm divine in this world of disharmony,” he added.
CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF ARNAB BANDYOPADHYAY
Arnab Bandyopadhyay is an Indian classical dancer, renowned for his expertise in Bharatanatyam and Odissi dance forms. With nearly three decades of dedication, he has significantly contributed to popularizing Indian classical dance internationally. As a mentor and through his organization, Darpani, he has been instrumental in propagating the art of Odissi. Some of his critically acclaimed productions include “MAAYAA,” “ANANTA,” “MON PAKHI,” “YUGAANT,” “SHYAAMA,” “KARUNA DHARAY ESO,” “SRI RAM,” “NAVARASA,” and “CHIRO SAKHA.”
DARPANI: CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT OF DANCE
Established in 1995, Darpani is a premier dance institution promoting India’s rich cultural heritage through classical and contemporary dance. Empanelled by the I.C.C.R. (2018-19), Darpani blends classical traditions with modern choreography. The institution supports social causes, working with NGOs to help physically and mentally challenged children, and conducts workshops to inspire young generations about Indian classical dance.
