DARSHAKER DARBAR 2024-25: A GRAND CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Step into the colorful world of Darshaker Darbar, a grand cultural festival, organized by Sukchar pancham Repertory Theatre, Sodepur. This event showcases a rich tapestry of theater performances, workshops and cultural activities.
The festival was inaugurated with the lighting of lamps by the mentor-guardians of the group, including the directors of Pancham, Sutapa Bhattacharyya, special ‘Pancham Samman’ recipient, and Professor Mahua Mukherjee.
Celebrating 30th years of ‘Darshaker Darbar’, Theatre Art Festival is divided into different phases this year. The first phase was officially inaugurated on December 15, 2024, at Jalsagar Art Gallery Studio Theatre, Sodepur.
The Jalsaghar Music Conference of the 11th Year, 8th Session was graced by Professor Mahua Mukhopadhyay, a researcher and pioneer of ‘Gaudiya Nritya Bharati’ in Kolkata, who explained the authentic history of Bengal’s only classical dance form through her Lecture Demonstration.
The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to Professor Mahua Mukherjee and her associates for making the inaugural ceremony of Sukchar Pancham’s annual Theatre Art Festival – ‘Darshaker Darbar’ 2024-25 such a beautiful and memorable event.
SUKCHAR PANCHAM REPERTORY THEATRE: A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE
Sukchar Pancham Repertory Theatre (SPRT), established in 1990 by Guru Maloy Mitra, has been a beacon of cultural excellence for over 34 years. Located in Sukchar, near Kolkata, SPRT has staged more than 100 plays, featuring works by renowned creators like Rabindranath Tagore, Vishnu Sharma, Rajshekhar Basu, Utpal Dutta, Manoj Mitra and Badal Sarkar. Under the mentorship of global icons such as Peter Brook and Satyajit Ray, SPRT has nurtured talented artists, including Proloy Mitra, Sudhriti Neogi and Labani Sarkar.
CELEBRATING 30TH YEAR OF DARSHAKER DARBAAR
Darshaker Darbaar, SPRT’s month-long Theatre Art Festival, has fostered cross-cultural interactions for 29 years. SPRT introduced the ‘Pancham Samman’ to honor senior cultural artists and social activists. The organization also developed Jalsaghar – Art Gallery Studio Theatre, a hub for intimate performances, workshops and exhibitions, regularly hosting events featuring both established and emerging artists. Recognized by prestigious institutions including the Ministry of Culture, Minerva Natya Sanskriti Charcha Kendra, and the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal, SPRT continues to inspire and shape the future of theatre in India.
