CELEBRATING TALENT AND TRADITION: J.B SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS’ ANNUAL BEAUTY PAGEANT
J.B School of Fine Arts, Agartala, Tripura, a 24-year-old institution renowned for nurturing drawing and art enthusiasts, has been a beacon of talent and creativity. For the past eight years, it has organized the prestigious beauty pageant shows, Sharod Shundor and Sharod Shundori.
This year’s event, held on 7 October 2024, at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan Hall No. 2, was graced by esteemed guests including Jharna Debvarma, Chairperson of Tripura Women’s Commission, and journalists Amit Banik and Nandita Dutta. The highlight of the evening was the mesmerizing performance by Kaladhara Dance Education Center, whose dedication to Durga Asura Dalini Bhavna left a lasting impression on all attendees.
EMPHASIZING ART AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT
In his welcome speech, Joydeep Bhattacharjee, Principal of J.B Art School, emphasized the importance of various art mediums. He highlighted how the school’s platform helps children from the state develop their talents through advertisements and media, including the Femina India competition.
HONORING EXCELLENCE: J.B SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS’ MEMORABLE EVENT
In the first episode of the program, the creation of a worship atmosphere at the Dhaka Bowl left a lasting impression on the audience. Beyond the Sharad Sundar and Sundari competitions, J.B School of Fine Arts also recognizes exceptional talents. This year, painter Jayashree Roy, model Nikita Ghosh and Nivedita Bhattacharya were honored by renowned artist Joydeep Bhattacharya for their remarkable achievements.
The Deepak Ira Smriti Award was presented to the families of two meritorious students, Shubham Pal and Vaishali Guha. Dr. Deepa Bhattacharya awarded a scholarship worth 25,000 rupees for two years in memory of her parents. Additionally, new generation artists Trisha Bhowmik, Srideep Pal and Ishita Das received the Devi Roy Award for their successful contributions both within and outside the state
A NIGHT OF ELEGANCE AND RECOGNITION
In the traditional dress round, models showcased the vibrant attire of various states, especially from the North East, lighting up the stage with their elegance. Judges honored artists Shanta Dev, Mithun Debvarma, Subhrajit Ghosh and Sukanya Pal for their unique contributions.
The confidence of the models in the western round was striking. Prithviraj Bhowmick was crowned Best Sharad Shundor in the final ceremony, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and other mementos. Other winners included Prince Debvarma, Dibakar Das, Raj Dalal and Asmit Vanik, each awarded Rs 1,000 and souvenirs.
Bhagae Sharad Sundari, Nandita Das, was honored with Rs 10,000 and a memento. Other autumn beauties, including Chakraborty, Neha Das, Asha Chhetri and Sneha Debnath, were awarded Rs 1,000 and various commemoratives. The event also recognized Eso Durga Angi in the sitting drawing category and those with national and international merits.

Hosted by Shaoli Roy, the program began with a praise of Durga, creating a festive atmosphere in the hall. The audience was mesmerized by Durga Bandana performed by Tanushree Creations. The audience gathered and enjoyed the entire event, which received a huge response on the evening of Chaturthi. Special thanks were extended to core sponsors Gopinath Jewellery, Dipak Ira Memorial Trust and New Banik Udyog.
