CELEBRATING BAT-TALA’S LEGACY AND CONTEMPORARY EXPLORATIONS

Reflecting on the Bat-tala woodcut prints, a tradition that began in the Chitpur area of Kolkata during the 1820s, the exhibition showcases contemporary printmakers who blend traditional methods with contemporary experimental approaches and reimagine the medium’s possibilities.

“Curator Ina Puri envisions this exhibition as a bridge connecting the historical relevance of Bat-tala with the dynamic practices of present-day printmakers,” says the organizers of the Exhibition.

As part of the prestigious Bengal Biennale 2024, the exhibition will draw national and international attention, reinforcing Kolkata’s position as a hub of artistic innovation.
