UKKMMS has been one of the most sought after music festivals from its inception 40 years ago and it’s been a thriving music event for building cultural bonds between a variety of schools of music and dance practitioners and masters.
This year it has decided to extend their rich cultural programmes to the Capital City by organizing a two day Indian Classical Music and Dance Festival on 23rd and 24th of April, 2022.
Waseem Ahmed Khan has a great lineage of traditional musicians of the Agra gharana, highly influenced by the dhrupad gayaki and ‘khayal’. He is known for picking up special words or sentences in a bandish style and improvising in the true Agra style with bol-bant. He believes that the universal objective of the music is the betterment of humanity and is very much particular in choosing ragas for his concerts and prefers to adhere strictly to the true spirit of his great forefathers’ traditions.
Ustad Sabir Khan and his sons are taking forward the great legacy of Tabla doyen Ustad Kamamatullah Khan, the legendary musician whose legacy traces to the 11th century AD. Generations of devoted practice with combinations of talent and skill marks the tradition of music in Forty Fingers of Farukhabad.
Samraggi Ghosh, the renowned performer was born in a music loving family and groomed as a kathak as well as a kathakali performer. She learned all the bols, gats, tukras in different talas under the tutelage of Ustad Sabir Khan and performed extensively in India and abroad including UK, Germany and Australia.
Pandit Partha Bose is acknowledged as one of the most respected Sitar maestros and has gone through the rich traditions of Guru Shishya parampara under the tutelage of Pandit Manoj Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. Pandit Partha Bose had the rare privilege of performing before Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Kishan Maharaj and Shrimati Girija Devi and being blessed by these living legends.
Pandit Dr. Santosh Kumar Nahar is a renowned violinist and has become a popular performer at India’s most prestigious music festivals. He belongs to a family of traditional musicians of Mishra Gharana of Bhagalpur.
UKKMMS was established in1980 as a personal endeavor of Ustad Sabir Khan, his son and disciple to keep the name, the tradition and almost a millennium-old legacy, alive.
A Gharana that the legendary Ustad Karamatullah Khan had left behind after his untimely demise in 1977 and the Music Festivals held under the banner provided a platform for the young and upcoming led to charity drives, became a yearly festivity for the connoisseurs of Bengal with exclusive featurettes and novel music performances by the likes of Bharat Ratnas – Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Ustad Bismillah Khan, to name a few.
The culture of promoting tradition was taken up by many disciples of the Gharana, as part of their holistic life goals and the community of artists joining hands has grown strong ever since.
This year also marks a new chapter for the institution as it expands its vision across different cities, into Blockchain Technology as well as drafting sound policies for better health and livelihoods of Indian Artists.
