BATIK WORKSHOP / M. GOWRI

TASMAI, Pondicherry conducts Batik Workshop by M. Gowri who has been doing batik for the last 22 years.

She learnt the art from Ashram, Pondicherry and she hopes to propagate this delicate craft.

Batik is an ancient fabric wax-resist dyeing process of Indonesia and now UNESCO officially recognized this ancient art form as a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of humanity from Indonesia.

The process in batik is very labor-intensive and workshops are arranged in two sessions on Wax application & Dying and Washing off the Wax Process here.
