SWARANJALI’S GHARANA FESTIVAL 2024
Swaranjali’s Gharana Festival 2024 in association with Raag Tarangini, was held recently at the prestigious Vidyasagar Mancha, Barasat, celebrating the rich tradition of Indian classical music featuring a series of mesmerizing performances over two days.
The festival commenced with a captivating Santoor performance by Mayukh Das, who presented Raag Charukeshi, accompanied by Tabla maestro Bodhimon Dasgupta and followed by an evocative vocal recital in Raag Megh, by renowned musician Dr. Aditi Chakraborty beginning with the vilambit ektaal composition ‘Kari Badariya Chhayee’ and transitioning into the mdhya lay ‘Garaj Garaj Badarwa’. The performance was enhanced by Amit Chatterjee on Tabla and Abhijit Chakraborty on Harmonium. The evening was marked with Subhabrata Chatterjee’s remarkable rendition of Raag Desh, with Tabla accompaniment by Partha Pratim Das.
The second day of the festival opened with Pandit Subhash Bose, who enthralled the audience with his Hansaveena performance in Raag Shyam Kalyan and a dhun in Raag Kalyani Bilawal, accompanied by Tabla player Bapi Chakraborty. Vidushi Priyanka Mitra then presented a powerful vocal performance in Raag Gaud Malhar, featuring a bilambit composition in ektal and a drut teen tal followed by a tarana. Her rendition was accompanied by Rajnarayan Bhattacharya on Tabla and Sayan Chatterjee on harmonium. The performance included the vilambit bol ‘Kahe Ho, Ham So, Pitam Akhe Fer Dar’, the drut ‘Papi Dadurwa Bulayere’, and a Thumri in Manjh Khamaj, ‘Ab K Sawaan Ghar AaJa’, along with the kajri ‘Jhir Jhir Barse’. The festival concluded with a mesmerizing Sitar recital by Debojyoti Gupta in Raag Saraswati and Dhun with Tabla accompaniment by Amit Chatterjee.
