“I had received my initial training from Smt. Sharmila Biswas at a very young age and completed M.A (Odissi) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. When I stepped into the world of Odissi, I could not rest and felt that I should acquire more skills and knowledge in Odissi. Hence, my eagerness for specialization in Odissi brought me to SRJAN (Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Nrityabasa) and I am fortunate to receive training under the able guidance of Guruji, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and his son, Guru Ratikant Mohapatra. When I enrolled in SRJAN, I felt like I had entered the never-ending cosmos of Odissi. Guruji seemed like an ocean of knowledge to me,” renowned Odissi dancer Rajib Bhattacharya, Secretary and the Principal of SRJAN, remembers his decades long association with his legendary Guruji, Kelucharan Mohapatra.
SRJAN, the premier institution was founded by legendary Odissi exponent Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra at Bhubaneswar, Odisha for preserving and popularising the rich heritage of Odissi in 1993. Now his son and disciple, Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, runs SRJAN, maintains high standards of performance and professionalism, conducting various Workshops, Performances, Choreographies and Music festivals.
