in Daegu Arts Center, South Korea

The identities and visions of different cultures were presented in a bold color  language and among them, the art worlds of two foreign artists – Larissa Noury, architect-colourist and Professor of Colour ITECOM Art & Design, Paris and American artist Irina Rodrikoff (New York, USA)  drew the particular attention of public and professional critics in the Exhibition.

Larissa Noury, architect-colourist and Professor of Colour ITECOM Art & Design, Paris.

“Color is a hope for happiness. I created a universe where the tactile colours build both a universal and personal imaginary space. They overlap and interact in order to evoke the feeling of wavering and well-being.

My painting is tactile painting; I invite people to touch it, to discover the world that is greater than our visual world. This tactile colour is between Science and Art; Science of psychology of perception (as visual as tactile) and Art of New impressionism.

What is important for me is to create and transmit energy. It is not only a visual image, it is more than that, because the very important point is to capture the positive energy that comes from natural light and materials, which come from Nature, from the Universe and try to transfer and keep it on paining compositions.

We could call a style a New Impressionism, because with overlapping layers I create an image that is constructed in our imaginary world by playing off the color materials and pigments. The difference is just that the Impressionists and the pointillists created the image with points, strikes or dots – I create it by overlapping layers as an architect.

The color compositions are stronger when they create the diptychs, the triptychs, 4 or even 16 panel elements because they can tell a story: there is always the beginning, the subject itself and it is never the end, it is rather the beginning of another story. So this story continues in the infinity of the Universe…

In fact, it is not a classic creation; it is not a classic color in painting. It is an invitation, an invitation to the land of your dreams; it is a dream of Harmony. What I wish you could discover is your world, which is much richer, much more important than the visual world.

We have this whole universe of energy to discover, painted melodies, “living pictures” as in these magnificent compositions of tactile paintings. Tactile painting invites us to touch and discover its color energies.

The subject of my art is happiness. First of all, I do my painting when I feel I am happy and my aim is to express that happiness on the canvas, and that the happy energy expressed in that way will be amplified to the viewer.

I hope the audience can feel the happy energy I planted in the work by touching it. You will be able to feel the three-dimensional effect but you need time to do the meditation and discover all the beautiful details,” shares Larissa Noury, renowned Architect-colourist and Professor of Colour ITECOM Art & Design, Paris (France).

“When I am in nature, my tension is relieved and I feel like I am seized with a sense of happiness little by little. I capture that feeling of happiness on canvas,” she added.

American artist Irina Rodrikoff (New York, USA)

“I am not limited by the material. In particular, I am amazed at the effect that occurs when a material itself meets another material. Ash does not hold the brush, so the material takes care of itself and provides an accidental effect like a natural phenomenon, and I think the artist is the one who discovers it.

I drew the mountain now, but it is unknown what I will draw tomorrow. Just as birds sing and dance endlessly, human thoughts do not stay still for a single moment, so the work has room to change at any time according to the changing flow of consciousness.

I am curious, so I will draw something else next. It’s just that I don’t know my heart, so I think it will be revealed only then,” says renowned American artist Irina Rodrikoff (New York, USA) about her artworks exhibited.

Kum Young-suk (France & Korea)

“The tree, which is far from the compliant body shape, expresses energy full of vitality in all directions, like an electric heater generating electricity.
Free lines, colors, and materials being filtered and purified, receive light and pursue life,” says Kum Young-suk, renowned artist, teacher of art
and Korean calligraphy.

Kum Young Suk was born in South Korea, and lives and works in Paris now. She is a Doctor of Fine Arts, Sorbonne Paris 8, teacher of art and Korean calligraphy, and is involved with Agape Art.

‘Art and Faith’ is the subject of her personal and artistic life. By using metaphor and symbol, the image of her interiority materializes. As ‘the word becomes the body’, her inner language becomes painting.

Kum Young-suk likes to exchange, travel and live in diversity. She created the “Tree of Life ” series of paintings using different techniques on Korean paper and canvas.

“Painting is a poetry that is seen instead of felt and poetry is a painting that is felt instead of seen” – Leonardo DeVinci
