THE ART OF ABSTRACTION AND TRANSCENDENTAL JOURNEY IN THE TRADITION OF CHOLAMANDAL & DREAMS JUXTAPOSED WITH TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY
A Group Exhibition of figurative and abstract art works of renowned artists K. G. NARENDRA BABU & V. HARIRAAM is on show at Maison Perumal, Pondicherry. The Exhibition was inaugurated on 18 January 2023 and will continue till 18 February 2023.
“The meditative canvases of Hariraam are testimonies to control the rhythmic notations of echos and endless variations of patterns in a grid. Is he the archetypal weaver who catches the light in the warp and weft or woven tapestries ? A transcendental journey was chartered by him and other individuals like K.C.S Panicker who incorporated calligraphic abstraction as an idiom in a quasi -spiritual and scientific vision. The unraveling of sacred geometry and archetypal signs and symbols, saw new modes of perception of the abstract by the minimal notations. The references to symbolic forms evolved from ritual and religious involvement of local folk. This was translated on to the canvas to connect imagery with decorative intent rather than a religious evocation of divine iconography. The biomorphic forms arch and curve to construct multiple possibilities to use brilliant hues. The artist plays with surface and depth, transcendental invocation of minimal geometry and spatial dimensions in the tradition of Cholamandal,” says Suresh Jayaram, renowned Artist, Curator and Art Historian.
The eminent artist V. Hariraam, graduated from University of Mysore, did his BFA from Kalamandir School of Art, Bangalore and practiced printmaking from Lalit Kala Akademi Graphic Studios, Chennai. His abstract art works have been shown all over India and abroad including New York, UK, Japan, Spain, France and Romania.
The renowned artist V. Hariraam, known for his abstract paintings has received many awards. His works reflect deeply inscribed his philosophy, introspection and “experiences a spectacular vision and soon enough wakes up to a sensibility of ‘stellar memories’, that he expresses and narrates through his works.”
His works adorn many galleries including National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; National Museum, Botswana; Museums in Turkey; Lalit Kala Akademi in Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi.
Vibrant, surreal depictions of dreams juxtaposed with tradition and contemporary
“I was always on the lookout for new designs and I found inspiration wherever I went — temple towns, traditional architecture, kalamkari art, colours, Landscapes and, of course, the hills,” says the renowned artist K.G. Narendra Babu.
The renowned artist K.G. Narendra Babu has been associated with the Weaver’s Centre, Ministry of Textile, Chennai and travelled extensively throughout the country.
“I like to interpret dreams. I would like to figure them out as they come and that is what makes me create some of the flying figures that you see in my work,” now the artist makes with imagination, juxtaposing the traditional with the contemporary.
All his painted stories depict his own experiences in his life and all the humans, birds, animals, temple architecture and aliens, find their harmonious place in his magnificent world.
The famous artist K.G. Narendra Babu has always juxtaposed colors and lines to create images from his dream world.
He has studied Diploma and Post Diploma in Painting from Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai. He has conducted many solo and group exhibitions all over India and abroad
