16TH RASESHWAR SAIKIA BARBAYAN SATTRIYA AWARD 2024
& 56TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF DANCE & MUSIC
SANGEET SATTRA, an organisation dedicated for the promotion of Sattriya Nritya and its rich Classical dance culture, presented the 16th Raseshwar Saikia Barbayan Sattriya Award 2024 at Guwahati on 8 July 2024.
The 16th Raseshwar Saikia Barbayan Sattriya Award 2024 was presented to renowned artists Dr. Mahua Mukherjee and Shri Premo Ozah Borbayan for the year 2024. The renowned artist and the exponent of Indian Classical dance Gaudiya Nritya, Prof. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee received the prestigious award for her outstanding contribution in popularising this ancient dance form of Bengal in the country. Shri. Chakraborty, Hon. Secretary, Department of Culture, Government of Assam graced the auspicious function.
The great exponent of Sattriya culture and legendary artist Rasheswar Saikia Barbayan, who won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 1980, founded Sangeet Sattra for the promotion and preservation of the Sattriya art and culture in the year 1968. The organisation imparts theoretical and practical training of Sattriya Nritya, Badya (Khol), vocal (Borgeet) and also conducts various workshops. Many schools in different parts of Assam, Mumbai, New Delhi and USA are affiliated to the Sangeet Sattra.
Annual Festival of Dance and Music will be held on 9 July 2024 and 10 July 2024 at Sri Sri Madhabdev international Auditorium, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati.
